Yard drainage

French drain cleaning
in Windermere, FL

Summer storms in Central Florida drop a lot of water fast. When a French drain stops carrying it away, it pools against the house or turns part of the lawn into a pond — and the fix is usually clearing what's already in the ground.

Warning signs

Signs you need french drains

Puddles that last a day after rain

Water sitting over the drain line means the pipe or its outlet isn't taking it.

Water pooling against the house

Standing water beside the slab is the kind you want moving away, fast.

Pool deck or patio flooding

Deck drains and low spots overflow when the lines under them are packed with sand.

Soggy, bare or mossy strips of lawn

A strip that never dries out is telling you where the water collects.

How we do it

How a French drain works

A trench is lined with fabric, filled with washed gravel and a perforated pipe, and pitched toward a place the water can safely go. Water finds the gravel faster than it soaks through the surrounding ground and gets carried away.

Why they stop working

Sand, silt and roots work into the pipe over time, and the outlet gets buried or blocked. Jetting the line and clearing the outlet often brings an old system back to life — for far less than digging a new one.

Thinking about a new one?

If your yard needs more drainage than it has, we'll walk it with you, clear what's already there, and tell you honestly what it needs.

FAQ

French drains questions

Can you fix a French drain that stopped working?

Often. Many 'failed' French drains are clogged at the pipe or the outlet, and clearing them costs far less than digging in a new one.

Where does the water go?

To a lower part of the property, a dry well, or an existing storm drain connection where that's allowed. When we clear a system, we check that the outlet is open too.

Is it the drain or the grading?

If water sits right over the drain line after rain, the pipe or outlet is usually blocked. If it pools somewhere the drain doesn't reach, the yard may need more drainage. We'll tell you which.
